The Indian Embassy in Sofia grants visas to Bulgarian and Macedonians intending to visit India for transit, tourist, business and other purposes, in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the same.

Timings: The Visa Department is open on all working days from 1000 hrs to 1230 hrs for receiving documents for service. Serviced documents may be collected between 1630 hrs to 1700 hrs on the day advised.

 Requirements for visas

  • Original passport valid for at least 6 months more from the date of return from India. Passport should have at least 2 blank pages for affixing the visa
  • Two passport sized recent photographs
  • Correct visa fee (in leva only)
  • Supporting documents (Pl see under type of visas and documents required)
  • Duly completed application form

IMPORTANT NOTICE : Satellite telephone services are not permitted in India including satellite telephony through Thuraya sets. Visitors are advised not to carry or use any satellite phone in India.

 Visa Types and documents required
(May be read with important information given below)

The following types of visas can be granted. For detailed information about visas contact to Indian Embassy, Sofia.

  • Tourist – Air tickets for onward and inward journeys.
  • Transit –confirmed onward ticket from India/sailing certificate.
  • Student – Admission letter from the School/College/University in India, satisfactory evidence of financial support. For studies in Yoga, Music, Dance, Vedic Culture etc., letter from recognized institutions in India.
  • Business-Invitation letter from the Indian counterpart and sponsorship letter from the local company.
  • Employment –Employment contract signed between Indian Employer and the employee.

  • Diplomatic/Official - Note Verbale from Respective Diplomatic Mission.
  • UN Official – Note Verbale from UN Office.
  • Journalist – Details regarding the supporting documents can be ascertained from the Embassy which will depend on the nature of the visit.
  • Conference – Letter of invitation from the organizers of the conference. If conference is organized by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) approval of Government of India/State Government.
  • Research –Approval of Govt. of India/Nodal Ministry.

Important information on visa matters
Nationals of Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, North Korea, Jamaica, Maldives,
Nationals of Afghanistan, Argentina, Bangladesh, North Korea, Jamaica, Maldives,
Mongolia, Mauritius, South Africa and Uruguay are given gratis visas.
Nationals of Nepal and Bhutan do not require visa to enter India.
Tourist Visa-on-Arrival(TVOA) scheme: This facility is in place for citizens of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, effective from 1/1/2010, and for citizens of Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar would be effective from 1/1/2011. TVOA shall be granted by the Immigration Officers at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata and validity of such visas shall be for a maximum of 30 days with single entry facility.
Tourist Visa(Repeat Visits): There shall be a gap of atleast minimum 2 months between two visits on a Tourist Visa.
Holders of Bulgarian/Indian Diplomatic/Official/service passports and holders of Macedonian/Indian Diplomatic passports do not require visas to visit each other’s countries.

 Visa Fees

The current visa fees applicable to a Bulgarian Passport holder for different categories of visitors are indicated below. The visa fees are subject to change without notice. Other nationalities may kindly ascertain the fee from the Embassy.

Visa application forms can be collected free of charge form the Embassy.
Fee once accepted is not refundable.
